Randolph-Henry High School announced that Ryan Hathaway has joined football players from around the country today by signing a National Letter of Intent at Norfolk State University for the 2007-2008 school year. He becomes the second player to sign at a Division I school and the sixth to play college football since 2000, (John McCargo-NC State, Anthony Thomas-Shepherd University, Devin Foster-VA Union, Barrett Laine-Hampden Sydney, and Brian Barton-Emory and Henry). He will receive a full athletic scholarship covering tuition, room, meals, books and fees. This scholarship could total over $50,000 during Ryan’s time in school. The 6’5” 320 lb. lineman has been a member of the football program for five years. Ryan is part of the twelve senior players that helped the Statesmen have their first winning record in ten years and win 9 of their last 14 games. He was a member of an offensive line that led the team to an average 303 yards per game. On defense he accounted for 23 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 fumble recovery. In track, Ryan threw the shot and discus as a junior, placing 2nd in both the district and regional meets. This qualified him for the state meet where his distance of 49’ 2” placed him second in the school record book. He is currently a member of the R-H basketball team which leads the James River District. Ryan lives in Keysville with his mother, Catherine, and sister and brother.
